My Mixed Media Portfolio

For mixed media illustrations I combine photos with my own drawings in watercolour paint, watercolour pencil or coloured pencil. Which combination I use depends on the image and how I want it to look. I then scan and combine them in Photoshop and tweak them until they look perfect.

Better Luck Next Time

These are a sample of images from one of my stories called Better Luck Next Time.

Evil Molly Dolly escapes the suitcase where she lives with some other toys to create mischief outside. The other toys try to find her before she does anything evil, but can’t. When they do she won’t go back. Until they all grab her and drag her back in.

I used bright coloured pencils, paint and collage to contrast with the black and white photos. Making the characters come to life.

Photography Competition

These images are a selection from a national photography competition, to create a cohesive portfolio of images in a specific style or area of photography. Using Photoshop, I created photo montage images, putting drawn or painted characters into real photographs to bring them to life. I chose this because it is an unusual and interesting way to create completely new images. I had to think about how the final characters and photos would interact with each other right from the very beginning because I had to consider where and how the characters would fit in the photos.

Pc Bill and Rob Anywhere

I was commissioned by South Yorkshire Police to draw “Pc Bill” (who had already been designed) in twelve different poses and design a criminal, suitable for children, but without being a modern idea of a criminal (i.e. a teenage hoody.) and draw him also in twelve different poses. The final three images are images I did for myself. I took one photo of Edinburgh, Chichester and Whitby and placed Pc Bill and the criminal (Rob Anywhere) in each photograph.
