I was born and live in Sheffield, England. At school I obtained a G.C.S.E in Art amongst others and have since gained other qualifications, the top most being a HND in Fine Art, with Illustration and Design and a Foundation Degree in Photography and Image Manipulation.
I now use these skills to create children’s illustration. I write my own children’s stories and illustrate them. But I can also illustrate other author’s stories as well.
What media I use for a story depends on what suites or feels appropriate to that story. A more traditional, gentle story may require painted or drawn illustrations. Or a more unusual story may require photomontaged or mixed media illustrations. It depends on the story and what feel the writer wants to achieve.
I’ve always enjoyed painting and drawing. I like them because I can create traditional but exciting illustrations that will involve children. Photomontage I only discovered relatively recently. But I like it because I can create illustrations that are realistic enough to be believable, and at the same time unrealistic enough for children to escape into them.
I also use my skills to create Graphic Design. Whether it’s leaflets, brochures, logos or anything else, I’ll Design it.
I use Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign to create Graphic Design work. Using these programs I capture the essence of an idea, product or service and then create a design that represents that essence.
I enjoy creating Graphic Design because of the variety of projects that are involved; leaflets are different to brochures and they’re different to logos and they’re different to every other form of Design making each project something new to work on. I also enjoy Graphic design because of the variety of elements that can be used, such as photographs, illustrations, symbols and text. These make every project interesting and exciting.
